I want you to think for a moment. Is there anyone you feel safe confiding in? Is there a person you feel heard and seen by? Who is the one who reminds you of who you are when you have the tendency to forget yourself?
If someone came to mind, you have a form of support, and you are already a step forward in your healing. And if no one came to mind, stay with me, because this is for you most of all. Healing is a journey that was never meant to be taken alone.
What sisterhood really is
Sisterhood is more than friendship. It is not just spending time together or having someone to chat with. It is a bond and a trust you build with each other. It is feeling understood without having to justify your feelings, because your girls understand you and where you come from. It is a space where you can be your true self, without putting up a front, without shielding the version of you that is hurting. You can be the real you.
And sisterhood does not necessarily mean your biological sister. She can be a close friend, a mentor, a coworker, or a group of women who support and uplift one another. It is the kind of bond that says, I see you girl, I hear you, and I am here for you.
Why so many of us do without it
Many of us were taught to keep our feelings and our issues to ourselves. Do not tell people your business. Handle it. Stay strong. So we learned to carry everything privately, and we called that strength. But carrying everything alone is not strength. It is isolation wearing a brave face. Vulnerability, in the right company, is not weakness. It is how healing gets in.
How to build it, and be it
Real sisterhood is not about competition, and there is no room for envy. Sisterhood is a celebration of each other. Make room for your sister and let her know you have her back.
And here is the deepest part. Be to your sister the support that you are seeking. Be the kind of support system you would want her to be for you. Offer kindness. Offer presence. Offer understanding without judgment. Support given honestly has a way of returning.
A reflection
Take a deep breath in, and slowly exhale. Now ask yourself three questions. Who in my life do I feel the safest with? Where can I allow myself to receive support? And how can I show up as the support I would want in my own circle?
I am worthy of genuine connection. I am supported. I will allow myself to receive love, care, and understanding, because I deserve it.
You do not have to carry everything alone. There is strength in sisterhood, healing in connection, and peace in knowing you are supported. And if you are looking for that circle, this is exactly why my women's groups exist. Come sit with us. It begins with a free 30-minute consultation.
